I have always been interested in the art of world-building and storytelling, especially in game settings. So I would say that being able to code a game is where computation collides with my interest.

Just like many of my peers, games have always been a big part of my life growing up. From old titles like Final Fantasy, Silent Hill (which scarred me for life), Monster Hunters, and Resident Evil; to more recent ones like Last of Us, CyberPunk 2077, Witcher, Horizon, and Balder's Gate. I have always been fascinated by a wide variety of fantasy worlds. Aside from the more popular games mentioned above, I also appreciate many niche but unique indie games, many of which are created by small teams or even individual developers. Seeing the potential a one-person project can reach often makes me super excited to attempt game development myself.

Coming from an art & design background, I know how to execute the visual aspect of a game. During my undergrad years, I used handcrafted books, drawings, photography, animation, and film to convey stories. I would say I had decent experience in both motion and still media. However, I do not know how to code a game system, which is easily one of the most important parts of any game.

For the past few months, I have been learning how to use unity through online tutorials. In the process, I attempted to create some simple 2D games. Though the projects I made weren’t anything awe-inspiring, every time seeing it worked as I had intended still made me incredibly happy, and I couldn’t wait to learn more and make something more comprehensive by the end of the semester.

One of my project ideas is a interactive web game that has multiple endings and kind of functions as a ‘personality test’, and the goal of the game was to draw attention towards the impact that our actions online might have.
